Task 4- Project Management

Screen Shot 2018-02-06 at 14.35.59

In order to keep on top of my time management i created a gaunt chart during this project. This is something i can use as a timeline to map out what I’m doing and when, to keep on top of my work. I found out from my college what we would be working on and at what times so i could fill in my gaunt chart correctly. From my own experience and line managers experience i was then able to fill in how long it would take to do each one. To make sure i keep to my goals, i made sure i looked back on my gaunt chart every few days so i knew if i was on track.

I couldn’t keep up to my gaunt chart through out some of it because on the dates 13/06/17 and 14/06/17 i was not at college so i missed a few lessons leaving me to fall behind. To make this not an issue i got in contact with my teacher to find out the work i have missed and did it at home so i was still on time when it came to creating my website.

Another issue i had to over come was during my project i found some of the sections more challenging than i expected i would. For example i found the development stage took me a lot longer to do as i found it hard to pick up. I had never used code HTML and CSS before so i had to pick up from knowing nothing. I had to have a lot of guidance from my teacher and had a lot of questions to ask. When I couldn’t ask for any guidance i found myself googling a lot which stepped me back a lot in time.

Whereas sections like design I found very easy and I actually completed this quicker than I imagined. Picking colour themes, logo’s and the general visual design is something I do day to day in my job so this felt like home to me.

Presentation Techniques

Not Electronic

Paper hand outs-

Paper hand outs are a great way to keep your audience entertained and involved with your presentation. Some of you audience may prefer the having something written up and infant of them, so they can read it themselves. It is also very useful as they can take it away with them to look back on. Some people may find that presentations are too quick, so it is a good resource to follow.

Screen Shot 2018-01-04 at 12.58.30

Imagery and Posters-

If you would like to forget the tech side of a presentation and really engage with the audience one to one you could involve imagery or posters to do with the presentation. This way the audience arent staring at a screen getting distracted at other things, they will be looking around at the posters and listening to the speaker, therefore engaging and making eye contact. Having imagery is a good way to describe what you are also talking about.

Flip Chart/ Board

Why not be old school and use a Flipchart or black board to present? Your’e controlling everything you wright/ draw. So there is no technical faults. This is a good way to make sure your audience is following you and on the same page as you.

Screen Shot 2018-01-04 at 13.20.12

Electronic

Powerpoint

Powerpoint is just an all round easy software to use for presentations for any age. At one point it was estimated that there are 30 million PowerPoint presentations given every day. It is very simple to use with clear layouts. If you are a first time presenter, i would recommend to use Powerpoint as it is so straight forward.

Screen Shot 2018-01-04 at 13.23.32

Canva

Canva is a free graphic-design tool website where you can create an account with them to create presentations/ posters/ mood boards etc. It is slightly more fancy than Powerpoint as it is more visually advanced. It is used by non-designers and professionals. You have access to different tools to create a funky presentation such as shapes, layouts, effects etc. This is my favourite platform to use because i love how creative it is, and whenever i have used it it definitely grabs the audiences attention more than any other online presenting tool.

Screen Shot 2018-01-04 at 13.28.00

Video (Biteable)

Biteable is an online video presenting tool.  You can create a video presentation from scratch using their huge library of animation, movie, and still scene templates. You can also use their free music compositions, or upload your own music, logos and photos. The Biteable online presentation maker has simple user tools, professional animations and music, and a great online library of scene templates to customize into your own movie or slideshow. If you aren’t confident with your video making skills, you could just use one of our pre-made, editable video templates. When not feeling majorly confident with video in the first place i would usually try and stick with a programme that is quite self explanatory like Biteable. Video is an extremely entertaining way of presenting information. Rather than clicking through a simple slide show with lots of words, why not watch a video explaining your information? Adding music, great acting or interviews all different way of presenting info in a creative and exciting way.

Evaluation of Website

I think overall my website was produced the way i wanted it to be. The testing of the website i found very time consuming, as it took a lot of time to work out how to get things right. To test if the website worked on other devices such as my mobile i opened it up on safari. Once things were corrected to the way i wanted them to be i managed to get all the technical issues working.

The aesthetic qualities i was able to include were photo’s, see through buttons, map on every footer, bright colours, bold headings etc. These qualities made the website a lot more visually pleasing to look at instead of it being very plain and simple, i wanted it to stand out to the audience looking at it. I feel like i succeeded in this because a lot of my peers feedback was that my website looked a lot more ‘cool’ and ‘modern’ compared to theirs.

Screen Shot 2018-01-04 at 12.00.35

I feel like i did a lot of planning and researching before i did my website. The main task was to get the hang of using HTML and CMS codes, as i had never done it before. The planning i did was: moodborads, mindmaps, wireframes and researching. Visually planning it out made it al to easier for me so i could go straight into creating my website knowing what i want it to visually look like. Below is a mind map i created in my pre-production when i was thinking of ideas.

Screen Shot 2018-01-04 at 12.08.58

I feel like my time management wasn’t the best when it came to the actual building of the website. I think i spent most of my time actually planning and preparing but when it came to actually building the website i feel like i didn’t have enough time, and was in a rush to finish before the deadline. However, i was able to still get my website done on time with it all working. I feel like if i was to do it again i would research more into the html and cams codes to learn more as i think the actual building of the website was my weakness.

The way i checked my website was firstly me going through everything checking it all working. I did this by going through the website and checking the links work and navigation, i also went through to check the spelling. I found a few spelling mistakes but apart from that everything else worked. I also tried it out on different platforms such as safari and google chrome. I tested my website out on a phone and tablet to see if it still worked and everything was placed correctly, or if there was anything i needed to make changes on. I found that when i checked it on a phone i needed to make some adjustments to the layout. I then got my piers in my class to go through and check to see if there was anything obvious that needed changing, they couldn’t pick up on anything.

Evaluation of Presentation

I chose to present my website on the website ‘Prezi’. The reason i did this is because i think it is very aesthetically pleasing when going through each slide, making it a lot more interesting to look at. I chose to do it on the subject ‘Social Campaigns’ because it is something i do on a day to day basis that really interests me. I decided to do my presentation without any notes or paper in front of me, i think this is a good way to interact with you audience by looking up at them every now and then. I think having a presentation right in front of me made me confident because i could show the audience exactly what i was speaking about and going through each page step by step.

Once i finished my presentation i asked for feedback from the audience. Everyone said that they like the way i presented my work, they said it made it a lot more interesting and very easy to follow. I also got told that i spoke clearly and loudly. They also said that by putting good visuals such as photos and videos it was a lot more eye catching. They said i could’ve improved by looking at the audience more to seem more engaging instead of constantly looking at the screen. Also one of my friends in the group that had watched my presentation before noticed that i had left something out, probably due to nerves.

After i got the feedback, i thought about what i would do differently if i was to do it again. I think i would be more engaging with the audience, look at them more and maybe ask if they have any questions at the end. I would also make sure i go through everything in my presentation and not leave anything out!

Test Plan

How can you test your website is working?

  • Third Party Testing
  • Questionnaire
  • Survey
  • First Party Testing

Make sure you check on different devices:

Desktop, Mobile, iPad etc

Compatibility: Browsers (Chrome, firefox, IE, Safari, Opera)

PC and Mac

Functionality:

  • Animation
  • Links
  • Responsive to scroll

It must be mobile friendly, make sure content is clear and coding is still working.

Validate Code

Speed Testing/ Mobile Emulator (Online)

How am i going to test my website:

The first thing i will do is go through myself to see if i can spot any mistakes or anything that could work better.

  • Insure all the links/ buttons work
  • Insure the content is written correctly
  • Check the website on multiple browsers
  • Check the websites on devices- mac, pc, mobile etc, making sure the layout is user friendly.

I will then get someone else to look over my website to see if they can spot anything major that needs to be changed. I will then create a questionnaire so i can have feedback on my website to insure that it is as good as it can be.

  • Your team

Contingency Plan:

Saving frequently and having back up- In this project we will be creating a lot of time consuming and advanced documents that if we loose will take a lot of our time to replace, so we can’t afford to loose any of it. To make sure that none of my work gets lost or deletes i will make sure i continuously save my work after every 20 minutes. A lot of my work is backed up onto wordpress, but when starting the coding and CSS i will start to back it up onto a memory stick.

Good content Management- Using programmes such as WordPress and Canva automatically save your work after every couple of minutes. These are good websites to use when planning/ creating your work.

Taking notes- I think taking brief notes when thinking of ideas is  great idea. When in class and the teacher is talking and you think of any ideas it’s good to write down your thoughts and brief notes. The reason notes are a good idea is because you can write them down quickly and can easily look back on them.

Production Schedule

I had to create a production schedule including:

Initial Research, Concept Design, Visual Design, Logo design, Coding and Testing. I thought the best way to show this would be through a Gantt Chart.

Gantt Chart:

Screen Shot 2017-09-01 at 12.01.05

Here is a Gantt Chart which shows me schedule of when i will be doing things in the run up to my website being produced. This is a guidline so i know what i have to do for each date, and also which categories need to be done before others.

Wire Frames

Screen Shot 2017-08-23 at 14.36.30

Home page: For the home page i will use a high quality photograph with something to do with Brighton or either a group of colleagues talking to each other. My main name for the website is ‘DigitalPeople’ so this will be in the centre of my page in a simple, bold font so it stands out from the photograph. Below the title i will have a progress bar to load onto the next page or you will be able to click onto the ‘Click to Enter’ button to go into the website itself.

Screen Shot 2017-08-23 at 14.42.28

Across the top of every page i will have a bar with the companies logo and a drop down to go onto the other ages, this bar will also include the title of the page. On the ‘Who are we’ page i am going to include photos and writing explaining what the company does, and also include a list of things we have done.  The page will include content such as: where we started, our ambitions, targets and what we aim to do in the future. I would like to also include a ‘meet the team’ category.

Screen Shot 2017-08-23 at 14.51.48

For the hub page i am going to include a lot of photos and a video of a digital apprentice talking about their role, giving you an insight to what it is like and where they want to be down the line. I will include what digital hub is as a whole. It will include social media options and URL’S to the pages.

Screen Shot 2017-08-23 at 14.53.05

The last page will be a contact us page. Which ill include our email, phone number, instagram, twitter and facebook. It will have a option where you can fill out and leave a contact form so you will need to insert you contact details.  On the left hand side of the page i will include a photo of a map of our head office and where they can find us.

Assignment 5- Mind Map and Mood Board of Ideas

IDEAS FOR DIGITAL HUB WEBSITE:

Mind map-

Mood Board-

Moo

Summary of Mood Board:

After having multiple discussions with people about Brighton being a digital hub, i have come to the conclusion that digital meet ups are probably the best way to promote it. I feel like this is a great way of socialising and creating a bigger network around the same area. This means a lot of ideas are able to be shared, more jobs are made so overall it gets bigger. It’s a great way to hear advice, give it and hear peoples stories. One thing i’d really like to look more into is the gender roles within the Digital Hub industry, is it more male based?

I have looked into lots of themes of the website and one that stood out to me was the ‘parallex theme’. The colour theme id like to do is a neutral colour like ‘yellow’, where it’s not male or female based. The 4 main pages i would be interested in doing is: Homepage, Who we are, Rescources and Contact Us. I used the ‘Brighton digital festival’ and ‘Brighton digital woman’ in my moodboard because i think they are a big part when creating my website as i will be able to get a lot of ideas from them.

Premier Pro

Screenshots of importing my video and audio into premier pro:

I did this by dragging my video and audio from my desktop into the bin one the bottom left of the screen.

Screen Shot 2017-08-22 at 11.09.01

How to trim the clips and cut the clips:

I was aiming to cut out the answers of each question. So to do this i had to listen through the video and use the tools {  } from the start and finish of where i wanted it to be cropped.

Screen Shot 2017-08-22 at 11.20.04

Adding a title:

I wanted to add the questions in a title before each answers. So to do this, i went to> title> new title> and selected the title i wanted and chose what i wanted it to say. I then dragged the title into the gap in between the videos. I also decided to put in a title whilst Rachel was speaking, to show her name and what her job role is.

Screen Shot 2017-08-22 at 12.01.05

Adding effects:

Add the ending of each video i decided to add an effect, to make it more interesting to watch. I did this by going to the ‘effects’ bar and experimenting with what effects look best.

Screen Shot 2017-08-22 at 12.01.46

Cut, edit and optimise audio:

I left this till last to make it less complicated when trying to sync the video with the audio so it will be in time with each other. It took a lot of trial and error to get it exactly in sync with each other, but i got their in the end. I managed to cut and edit the audio the same way as i did with the video. I then dragged it into my timeline.

Screen Shot 2017-08-22 at 12.09.09

Editing the video:

I then used the effects controls to change the brightness/ contrast on the video and also changed the colour saturation and temperature. Below you can see where i have edited the video before and after. This visually makes the video look a lot more pleasing. You are able to change the setting to how little or how much you want to add to the video.
